Claire Acfield Counselling and Psychotherapy

Thank you for visiting my website. Often taking the first step towards seeking help can be the hardest. I am a counsellor and psychotherapist offering face to face sessions for adults age 18+ in Hartley Wintney, RG27 and also online.

When I first sought therapy many years ago, I felt hugely overwhelmed by long lists of counsellors and bombarded with phrases and jargon that made no sense to me. All I wanted was a counsellor who was approachable, kind and would listen to me without interruption or judgement.

Now I am a counsellor and have a better understanding of all of these terms and phrases, but I have never forgotten those key attributes I was looking for, and I try to uphold them in every client session.

About me

I firmly believe that we are all experts on ourselves. Therefore, my role as a counsellor is not to give you advice or tell you what to do. I am there to listen as a non-judgmental professional who may ask questions to help you make sense of your issues and to work out why you do things in a certain way. By doing this it can help to improve your mental health and work towards positive therapeutic change in your life.

My experience

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Mindspace Foundation.

I have experience of working with adult clients face to face at Sandhurst Counselling Service, supporting people with a wide range of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, attachment issues, identity, overwhelm and burnout.

I work at The Female Health Clinic on Hartley Wintney High Street, Hampshire as the clinic counsellor where I see clients both face to face and online. Many are women going through menopause, although I see both men and women of all ages 18+.

My approach

I believe that a close working relationship between counsellor and client is the most important factor in enabling therapeutic change to take place. I understand that trust may not develop quickly, and for some people it can take many sessions before they feel able to speak freely and honestly. This is normal and I will work at your pace, not mine.

I am integratively trained, which means it definitely is not “one size fits all”, as everyone is different and what one client may respond well to might not work for another. We can work together to get to know one another and decide what is most useful for you.

Qualifications and memberships

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work within an ethical framework and adhere to best practices to make sure every client feels supported during counselling sessions.

FAQs

A few of the questions people often ask before getting in touch.

How much do sessions cost?
Each 50 minute session is £65. This is the same whether I see you face to face at The Female Health Clinic in Hartley Wintney or online.
When do you see clients?
I see clients face to face on Wednesday and Friday daytimes. I have more flexibility with my online work and would be happy to discuss this with you. If we begin working together I would hold the same time for you each week.
What if you decide you can’t help me?
If your presenting issues are outside my area of expertise then I will signpost you to another practitioner whose training is a better fit for you.
How long do I need to commit to counselling for?
My sessions are open ended. This means that we can continue working together for as long as you choose. There is no minimum commitment.
How often will I see you?
I find that seeing clients weekly is optimal as it helps us to develop a strong working relationship and allows me to get to know you at a pace which feels right for you. That said, I understand that not everyone can afford weekly sessions, and I aim to be as flexible as possible if you need to see me fortnightly.
How will I know if you are the right counsellor for me?
There is no guarantee that we will be the right fit as counsellor and client. However, I offer a free of charge 30 minute introductory video call in which we can discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and I can explain how I work. This should help you decide if I am someone you would like to begin counselling with.
Are my details kept private?
All bookings are made via The Female Health Clinic and client details are stored confidentially. For more information on The Female Health Clinic please click here: www.thefemalehealthclinic.co.uk.
